Summary:
Read delivered this substantial headquarters extension project, linking together a series of buildings to form a centre hub which comprises of conference and training rooms, a restaurant and offices.
MAINTAINING SERVICES – The construction of a major extension within the operational headquarters site presented the logistical and planning challenges and constraints that Read have successfully managed on multiple occasions. This development offered a new challenge in the form of existing IT and communications infrastructure running across the site in an external above ground service link between the main HQ and the control room. The risk was managed through close liaison, clear demarcation and strict access control and work permitting.
EXEMPLAR QUALITY – The client’s aspiration was to develop the best training facility of its kind in Europe, with the quality of finish to reflect such a status. By working closely with the architects and clients representatives, Read ensured the quality was delivered through appropriate selection of robust and sustainable materials, and the appointment of subcontractors who demonstrated their consistency of quality.

Huw Price, as a newer member of the Read team, has quickly adapted to the Read Construction ethos and efficiently controls the financial side of the project as well as having a good working knowledge of the project.

I have worked closely with Darren Cartwright on several projects over the years and most recently at Winsford Fire & Rescue Headquarters. He is always well organised & knowledgeable about the project and is always aware of what the sub-contractor trades work involves on site and when it should be happening. He uses this knowledge to control the site and ensure that a number of trades do not need to work in the same area at any one time thus helping all trades to make best use of their time on site. I look forward to working with Darren again in the future.
