Project
Synopsis

Project name: Queen Hotel, Chester

Location: Chester

Contract: JCT Intermediate

Value: £573,000

Duration: 24 Weeks

Summary:

Construction and fit out of new meeting rooms and link corridor, joining the main Queen hotel building with the Thistle House building (later converted to the King’s Suites by Read under a subsequent contract).

CONSIDERATE – Construction of the link structure within the live rear courtyard included an enabling pack, piled foundations, structural steel frame, masonry external walls with curtain walling to the courtyard elevation. Undertaking these operations within the confined site during peak hotel season proved a challenge. Weekly formal planning meetings were supplemented with daily liaison breifings to ensure the disruption to the hotel was minimal and that communication to all site personnel was effective. Despite the scale and intrusive nature of the works, no negative feedback was recevied from staff, guests or visitors during the works.

QUALITY IMAGE – Since its opening in 1860, the Queen Hotel has maintained a prestigious high quality reputation for excellence in customer service to the discerning traveller. Read appreciate the requirement for considerate and contientious working practices to ensure that client reputations for excellence is not diminished through the impact of construction operations.
