Project
Synopsis

Project name: Ysgol Gynradd Cae'r Nant

Contract: PPC 2000 Partnering Contract

Value: £6,100,000

Duration: 104 Weeks

Summary:

New build construction of a BREEAM Excellent 320 pupil entry primary school through a Partnered contract. The residential location necessitated considerate working practices and careful logistic planning.

INNOVATIVE PROCUREMENT – The key supply chain partners were appointed to the partnering team following an innovative appraisal process that reflected Read’s own appointment through a Quality / Cost tender process. By vetting and assessing responses in a client & contractor workshop, best value was upheld as the primary consideration.

LEAN CONSTRUCTION – Read developed a new Quality Assurance process through the project, completing, signing off and locking down an area of the project early in the programme. This was then used during induction to coach tradespeople in the expected finish standard throughout the remaining build. The resulting built-in-quality culminated in the LABC regional award for best education project.

SUPPORTING COMMUNITIES – The project was one of Read and Flintshire County Council’s first schemes where community benefit engagement activities were recorded and reported. The outcomes included 11 school engagement activities, over 75% value delivered locally, 12 apprentices supported and a total of over 300 weeks of recruitment and training, all delivered with no core (contractual) requirement.

What was said ...
  • Colin Crosby - Director - Senate Ltd.

We have found Read Construction to be very professional, helpful and courteous. Their staff were proactive and thoroughly understanding whist undertaking several projects in and around the Trust. The quality of their workmanship was exceptional and their staff worked in an accommodating manner, which is a rare quality these days.

Nothing was ever to much trouble for site Manager Dawid Cloete and he had the ability to make difficult tasks appear easy. These skills aren’t learnt overnight and reflect the ownership displayed by Dawid to get the job done right, on time and to budget.

Interaction and communication were second to none and I believe is a direct reflection of your team’s character, honesty, dependability and your people skills. Read’s are thorough in their execution and actively work in partnership, we wouldn’t
    hesitate to recommend them.

  • Kate Fox Parry - Head Teacher Designate - Ysgol Gynradd Cae'r Nant

From the initial Partnering workshop, I was inspired by reads commitment and proposals regarding customer focus and collaborative team working; some 9 months later and with work on site progressing well, our initial observations have been completely proven.

Read’s Head Office and Site Management teams inclusive of all of the Construction team have more than proved their commitment to not just build a school but to engage with the Staff, Pupils and Community at large in ensuring effective liaison, a truly successful team working relationship to deliver this community enhancing project.

Pupils have been inspired by an inspirational  and engaging delivery team, further developing the benefits of this immensely positive project.

  • Sharon Humphries - Acting Head teacher - Ysgol Gynradd Cae'r Nant

Read’s ATS website  supports effective communication with all stakeholders and has proved a total success. The bespoke website supporting the new build programme has enabled  Pupils, Parents , Staff and the Community at large to engage with the development. Video progress images, Time line photos, Photo Galleries, Blogs, Secure area, Site information , Video live progress streaming and more have contributed to an inclusive and customer focused interface. We are part of the living contact , sharing in  daily events and progress, pupils and the wider community are totally involved, informed, and aware of the works in providing a new school, thereby fostering a sense of pride and belonging to the new school. We could not be happier with effective communication with all stakeholders.
