Summary:
New construction of a BREEAM Excellent Health Centre on the outskirts of Llangollen, constrained by the River Dee on one side and the busy A483 on the other. Effective public liaison was essential in managing this high profile project with minimal disruption.
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT – Read work with local design practices and consultancies to ensure local delivery of best value solutions. By engaging and managing the design development, the team were able to enhance the project with an additional 60m2 of photovoltaic cells, saving 3.4t carbon and £450 per annum to the client running costs.
QUALITY – Beginning with the end in mind is a quality principle Read champion to ensure built-in quality. Currently under consideration for an LABC Quality award, the design and finish of the Health Centre is exemplary with local, sustainably sourced products featuring throughout.
CONSIDERATE – By liaising closely with local residents, town council and schools, the team ensured consideration at all times. By planning effectively and communicating clearly, the interface with the adjacent housing estate, preserved steam railway and interested public groups was managed without incident and 100% positive feedback.
The contractors have done a fantastic job and built what looks certain to become a huge asset for Llangollen. It’s very impressive. The facility has taken shape rapidly over the past few months and it’s important that something on a main route into the town like this looks good – and this certainly does.
