Summary:
Refurbishment of Northgate Arena on behalf of Cheshire West & Chester Council, transforming one of Chester’s most established leisure facilities into a modern, inclusive and future-ready community hub. Delivered as part of the Council’s wider One City Plan, the project modernised the building’s health, fitness and wellbeing offering through the creation of a new spa, enlarged gym, modern fitness studios, upgraded changing facilities and a fully refurbished pool hall featuring new leisure attractions and improved accessibility.
The project was completed within a live operational environment, requiring carefully phased construction works and temporary facility relocations to maintain public access wherever possible. Alongside significant building fabric, mechanical and electrical upgrades, the scheme incorporated robust fire protection measures, improved accessibility, landscaping enhancements and public realm improvements. The completed facility provides Chester residents with a high-quality leisure destination designed to support community wellbeing while reducing long-term maintenance requirements and improving operational efficiency.
