Summary:
Originally constructed as a Hospital and subsequently re-purposed as a school, this alteration and refurbishment of the Grade II* Listed building created a modern “one stop shop” home for chesters charities and support organisations.
HERITAGE – Having delivered over 30 projects with listed and heritage interests, Read have the necessary skills to manage and deliver projects in a sympathetic and considerate manner to enhance the historic features. By liaising and communicating effectively with English Heritage and other interested organisations, the project was delivered with total buy in from all stakeholders.
CIVIC AWARD – Converting the 1717 building to meet 21st Century building standards presented many challenges including several clashes between the Conservation Officers need to retain historical character and the Access Officers need for 100% accessibility. By maintaining a collaborative approach to challenges throughout the project, such constraints were managed out and the project won a Chester Civic Trust Award for its ambition in restoring a historically importantly building in the city to use.
CITY CENTRE DELIVERY – Just in time material scheduling and out of hours deliveries required significant co-ordination through all supply chain members to ensure effective access and logistics planning. Read Site Manager was highly commended for his dedication to daily liaison and communication with neighbouring tenants and businesses during the project.
