Project Synopsis
Project name: Gwersyllt Primary School, Extension and Refurbishment
Contract: JCT D&B 2011
Value: £3,044,000
Duration: 77 weeks
Summary:
Design and Build project, awarded through the North Wales Construction Framework for the extension & refurbishment to the live Primary School in Wrexham.
Joint funded by the 21st Century Schools Programme and Wrexham Council, this scheme saw the extension and refurbishment to the existing school to create a 21st Century learning environment for the pupils.
CONSIDERATE – Delivered in the midst of a live education environment and adjacent to both housing and a shopping centre, the implementation of the Considerate Constructor Principles enabled our site team to work closely with the community – considerately communicating key updates, disruptive works and programming works to cause minimal disruption.
SOCIAL VALUE – Procured through the North Wales Construction Framework, Read worked with the client to identify key opportunties to add significant social value throughout the scheme. We worked closely with the end user to deliver a number of engagement activities, including open evenings to view plans and meet the team, regular updates for school staff and pupils and involvement in education activities.

I was delighted to open these two new facilities in Wrexham which show how innovative learning spaces and school reorganisation can support pupils and delivery of the new curriculum.
Councillor Phil Wynn
I’m very pleased that work at Gwersyllt CP has completed before the start of the new term and would like to thank Read Construction for their efforts in ensuring that children returned to a new and improved site after the summer holidays.
