Project Synopsis
Project name: Tyn Dwr Hall
Location: Llangollen Denbighshire
Contract: JCT Intermediate 2005
Value: £1,800,000
Duration: 36 weeks
Summary:
Refurbishment of a Grade II Listed Victorian manor house from former use as a YHA outdoor pursuit centre to an outdoor education training facility for UCLAN, including refurbishment of the adjacent coach house and construction of a Yurt camp.
ECOLOGICAL PROTECTION – Major developments in rural locations often incite significant local interest. With bats, badgers and a brook within the grounds care and attention was necessary in ensuring the works met with the ecologists recommendations and works were sequenced to avoid disturbance.
QUALITY – In addition to its higher education function, the facility renovation was designed to cater for residential activity breaks, corporate development, weddings, etc. with the availability of 97 beds and fully equipped bars and kitchen. This demanded a high quality of finish, which was achieved by sympathetic restoration of original features and enhancing the existing with complimentary modern elements.

I would like to thank the Read team for their prompt assistance and help to me when resolving the problems that arose during the renovation of Tyn Dwr Hall. In the past, completing heritage work has proved difficult and unfulfilling for me (as an ex-joiner) due to the short supply of craftsmen capable of undertaking heritage works to a satisfactory standard.
Working with managers and craftsmen who understood the problems associated with heritage works and proved capable of completing the works to a very high standard made a refreshing change.
