Project Synopsis
Project name: Ysgol Morgan Llwyd, Sixth Form Block
Location: Wrexham
Contract: JCT D&B 2011
Value: £1,470,000
Duration: 40 weeks
Summary:
New single storey sixth form block delivered on a Design and Build basis through the North Wales Construction Framework.
Awarded by Wrexham Council through the North Wales Construction Framework, this £1.5m Design and Build project was joint funded by the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools Programme and Wrexham County Borough Council.
MODERN METHODS OF CONSTRUCTION – A SIP’s solution (structurally insulated panels) was delivered following evaluation of masonry and steel frame structure alternatives. This was co-ordinated using Revit to ensure all penetrations for M&E service runs were taken into account which resulted in ZERO on site cutting or alterations to the panels – reducing waste and minimising on site risk.
POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS – Our team maintained a close collaborative working relationship throughout the project with all stakeholders. The resulting handover questionnaire feedback from the staff resulted in 100% positive response for all aspects including on time delivery, management of the works, quality and snag resolution, as well as 100% satisfaction with the Read team.

I was delighted to open these two new facilities in Wrexham which show how innovative learning spaces and school reorganisation can support pupils and delivery of the new curriculum.
